Top Five Personalized Nutrition Products and Technologies
/With consumers now focused more on their health than ever before, it’s no surprise that personalized nutrition has become an important section of the food and beverage industry. Personalised nutrition is predicated on the idea that every human’s dietary needs are unique. Personalized nutrition technology leverages information on a specific consumer and their characteristics to deliver targeted, specific products and services. By tailoring food and beverage products to each individual, health benefits are optimized. And many innovators have developed some interesting personalized nutrition technologies and products. Let’s take a look.
1. Hologram Technology (Hologram Sciences)
A staple of sci-fi fiction, now ‘holograms’ might have a serious role to play in the personalised nutrition market. Well, kind of. In Spring of 2021 health tech company Hologram Sciences launched their personalized health and nutrition innovation, with $100 million funding from Royal DSM. Their propriety digital platform “will provide consumers with a personalized experience including access to registered dieticians, allowing them to better understand how their lifestyle, nutrition and other factors impact overall health and what they can do to live healthier lives”. The platform serves to impact a consumer’s overall health journey.
2. Personalized Supplements (LOEWI)
German startup, LOEWI, are disrupting the food supplement market by producing supplements which are highly personalized by design. The supplements are generated in response to blood and lifestyle diagnostic tests, which assess allergies, illnesses and personal goals. “Personalised nutrition should not only be reserved for top athletes but should be available to everyone who strives for optimal health. Through the unique combination of science and technology, we are able to make personalised nutrition accessible to everyone,” says Philipp Merk, a founder of LOEWI.
3. Personalized Breakfasts (MyMuesli)
Another innovator making waves in personalized nutrition is German food company, MyMuesli. Their idea is clearly in their name; customers design their own cereal mixes. First blood and DNA samples are taken, which tailor make the muesli to their specific needs; different consumers have different macro and micronutrient needs. Huge growth opportunities in the market have also drawn the attention of larger food and beverage companies. Nestlé recently launched a “Wellness Ambassador” project in Japan, which uses artificial intelligence and DNA testing, to deliver bespoke food products.
4. Artificial Intelligence Based Nutrition (Heali)
California startup, Heali, uses AI to produce its personalized diet plans. So advanced is the technology, it works in the grocery store and in restaurants; delivering personalized diet planning live. Their app can also help users navigate complex dietary needs resulting from IBS or diabetes.
